Will DMN feed the microbes in my small intestine, making SIBO worse?Updated 4 months ago

DMN has not been specifically tested in SIBO. There are very few studies of supplements or other treatments for SIBO at this point, and there's still a huge need for more research.

That said, DMN may be beneficial in the context of SIBO for 2 reasons. First, it is a low FODMAP prebiotic, so it feeds the good gut bugs in a more gentle way. Second, the emerging research says that fiber is critical to recovery from SIBO. See PMID: 31043597.

When adding DMN in SIBO, it may be helpful to start at a low, tolerable dose and gently increase with time. Under the direction of your healthcare provider, you might consider starting at 1/2 teaspoon per day (or less) for a week and working your way up to the full recommended dose.
